The San Andreas fault as seen from the air. Photon by John Wiley via Wikipedia.

Graduate student Hanna Elston and Dr. Michele Cooke recently co-authored a paper in the Earth and Space Science Open Archive on using analog modeling and a 2D Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to predict off-fault deformation near a strike-slip fault.
